Project Blog- Dirt on Soil

Presentation/ Images

Summary:
The Holderness is a Coastline north-east of England. There was major erosion that was happening on the edge of a cliff. The some things that helped the erosion is that the ocean crashed against the cliff causing the soft boulder clay (a material that erodes quickly) to erode quicker. What Coastal Management did to fix this is they built a rock armour along the base of the cliff and two rock groynes. the problem was fixed for Mapleton but sadly places south of Mapleton now need to worry about the erosion.

Backwards-looking:
How much did you know about the subject before we started? I did not know anything about the Holderness. For example I did not even know about the Holderness or what it was. I did know that certain soils erode quicker than others. I also knew what weathering and erosion are. I knew that soil erodes at different speeds depending on the level of the ground. I knew that there were different types of soils.

Inward-looking:
How do you feel about this piece of work? What parts of it do you particularly like? Dislike? Why? What did/do you enjoy about this piece or work? I feel good about this work because I was with good partners that work hard. I liked that we got to be in teams and that got to make an IGNITE presentation. I disliked presenting because I was really worried that I was going to mess up. I enjoyed that we got to play a game to collect data. Overall I liked this project a lot.

Outward-looking: Did you do your work the way other people did theirs? In what ways did you do it differently? In what ways was your work or process similar? My team did our process in some different and similar ways. We did it different because we all got assigned a different natural disaster caused by erosion. We also had different resources. It was similar because we all had a natural disaster. It was also similar because we all had to make a IGNITE presentation out of our notes.

Forward-looking: What would you change if you had a chance to do this piece over again? I would change that we did not know that we had to have 12 slides. I would also change that I spoke fast because it made me mess up a little. I would also change that I was worried that we had to present because it all went great. I would change that we messed around for a little while we were supposed to work. That is all that I would want to change because the rest was good.
